CIPP Environmentall Friendly Pipe Repair

Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining is an eco-friendly repair method because it allows pipes to be rehabilitated and repaired from the inside without creating excessive disruption. This is made possible through the flexible liner that is inserted into the faulty pipe through an established entry point, such as a cleanout or small hole that our experts will strategically dig to be minimally invasive and prevent needless property damage.

The liner that is inserted into the pipe has an epoxy resin coating on its exterior, and after it is inflated with an artificial mechanism, it expands and fits inside of the old pipe. The pressure forces the epoxy resin coating the flexible liner to be applied to the interior of the pipe, fully covering corrosion and filling any cracks or leaks in the system. After several hours, the epoxy resin will completely cure and act as the new liner in its hardened state.

Trenchless, No-Dig Repairs Versus Traditional, Dig-And-Replace Methods

By having repairs take place inside of the old pipe, our cured-in-place pipe lining methods won’t damage sensitive land or historically important properties, making it a reliable solution to address a wide array of problems.

This is a far cry to traditional repair methods that require the pipeline system to be plowed out of the ground and manually replaced, a process that could take weeks and require homeowners to relocate during that time. The large equipment and machinery also proved to be destructive, tearing up streets and blocking access to businesses and inconveniencing residents. In addition, traditional repairs created excess waste that needed to be disposed of in landfills, and the trenches, while refilled with the dirt, were still largely visible on properties, forcing property owners to need to budget for additional landscaping and remediation costs following already expensive repairs.

While excavation was the standard method of repairs, cured-in-place pipelining, and other no-dig, trenchless-based options provide better, more flexible alternatives that meet the needs of customers and residents in the community.

The Benefits Of CIPP Lining On The Environment & Older Pipeline Systems

Because many pipes travel through or near areas such as wetlands, woodlands, and wildlife preserves, it’s important to keep these areas unaffected by the infrastructures of modern life. When pipes experience problems, our team at Apollo Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning take the time to repair them without upheaving these ecosystems. Since our CIPP lining process only requires one or two access points, such as a cleanout or manhole, we can ensure that extra, deep digging isn’t required to finish our work effectively.

In addition, the epoxy resin that we install into damaged pipes is safe, both for the environment and for the pipe itself. The material created has the durability equivalent to PVC pipes, ensuring that they will withstand common problems such as:

  • Corrosion
  • Tree root invasions through the joints
  • Cracks
  • Leaks
  • Pipeline collapses
  • Shifts in the soil

Older plumbing systems used materials that have proven unstable and toxic. For instance, galvanized pipes and lead solder are known hazards. Many municipalities have replaced these types of pipes, though some older homes in the area may still contain dangerous materials. When we install a new, cured-in-place pipe, it creates a barrier between the toxins found in the old pipes and the water flow, sealing away the potential health risks and offering a new, more reliable solution.

Our cured-in-place pipe lining solutions, while incredibly effective and beneficial on its own, is supplemented with the assistance of our high-quality, Perma-Main Top Gun equipment.

How The Perma-Main Top Gun Works

Built by our partners at Perma-Liner Industries, the Perma-Main Top Gun CIPP Lining equipment is specifically designed to rehabilitate pipelines 6-12 inches in diameter in a few hours with no excavation or disruption in the substrate. The liner is air inverted through existing manholes and steam cured in as little as 90 minutes using compact 750,000 BTU dry steam generators. This minimizes repair time, road closures, and reconstruction, allowing for safe reactivation of the repaired pipeline in just hours.

Because the system can be continuously fed, there is no limit to the length of material it can invert. Depending on the infrastructure, the installation lengths for liner typically average 300 to more than 600 feet. Prep time is minimal because all liner materials are pre-measured and delivered to the repair location pre-saturated.

The Features & Capabilities Of The Perma-Main Top Gun

The newest addition to our CIPP family, the Perma-Main Top Gun is a manhole-to-manhole, continuous inversion lining system. It offers many features and options that enhance the quality of our work and facilitate impactful, long-lasting repairs. Some of its important components include:

  • Specially formulated resin to lengthen the lifespan of pot
  • Inversion process finishes in less than 10 minutes
  • Air inversion – no large boiler inversion trucks necessary
  • Safe to use for contractors
  • All operations completed with air only, no water needed

The Perma-Main Top Gun improves the CIPP lining process by being compatible with any type of CIPP liner. Its hydrophilic sealing process results in the sleeve expanding when exposed to water, regardless of the pipeline materials the host pipe is comprised of. In addition, its retaining rings ensure that internal components aren’t moved during the CIPP lining process, holding the end seal in place. This also helps solve issues related to infiltration and inflow, keeping the pipe secure and free of complications.

Trenchless Repair FAQs

What is trenchless sewer repair?

Trenchless sewer repair refers to several technologies that allow us to clean out or repair your sewer pipes without digging up your whole yard. Traditional sewer repair involves digging a trench along the entire length of your sewer line, from your home to where it joins the city’s line in the street. This often involved taking out grass, trees, sidewalks, driveways, and more! With trenchless sewer repair, you can get a long-lasting fix to your sewer problem without all that hassle and expense.

How do you know what is going on in my sewer without digging it up to take a look?

We’ll send a small camera on a flexible cable down the entire length of your sewer line. Our camera gives us a clear, 360-degree view of your entire sewer line. It allows us to see any clogs in the line, cracks or breaks in the pipe, or other potential problems with the line. It also allows us to determine the exact location of the problems so we can target our repairs accordingly.

What is hydro jetting?

Hydro jetting involves shooting a controlled, concentrated stream of water into your pipes. We can direct this stream so that it targets the scum and scale that has built up on the sides of your pipes or so that it decimates clogs in the lines. The water is so concentrated that it can break up even tough clogs, including some tree roots. After hydro jetting, your clog won’t just be gone, but the insides of your pipes will look brand new.

What is cured-in-place piping (CIPP)?

Cured-in-place piping technology allows us to reline your sewer pipes without having to dig up the line. We turn the liner inside out and cover the inside with epoxy. Then, we run the liner into your line until it covers the crack or break in your sewer pipe. Our machines turn the pipe liner right side out again, allowing the epoxy to adhere to the existing pipe. Then we heat the inside of the liner so the epoxy can form a lasting seal. When we’re done, your pipe will have a brand new interior lining.

How long will CIPP last?

The project duration for your CIPP repair will vary based on the products we use, the length of pipe replaced, and other factors. However, many products come with a 10-year warranty and you can actually expect them to last for 50 years or more. The liner resists corrosion by water and other substances and provides a barrier that repels tree roots, too.

Will trenchless sewer repair save me money?

Most of the time, trenchless sewer repair is not only the fastest and easiest way to fix your sewer line, but it’s also the cheapest, too. While we cannot quote a price for your project until we know what is going on in your sewer line and what you need to have done, experience has shown that trenchless repairs almost always cost less than those done via traditional methods.

Trenchless repair is cheaper simply because you don’t have to pay to have your yard dug up and you don’t have to pay to have it put back together when we’re done, either. Eliminating these costs means that all you pay for is the repair itself.

Apollo jetted the basement drain line in our old 1927 Portland house. The line has been backing up thru the floor drain for a while. The technician cleared out the line with the hydro-jet, and it’s running great now. On-time and professional!
